Choosing My Way video game

Choosing My Way is a video game where players decide how to respond to opportunities and challenges after resettlement in the United States. Players choose goals, collect resources, and respond to situations. The goals and situations change every time, so the game is never the same. Players may focus on trying to get a high score or on completing the goals that are most important to them.

The game is targeted for refugees with some English proficiency who would like to interact with orientation material independently or who may not actively engage in formal orientation, overseas or in the United States. The game is also designed for use by orientation providers to facilitate its use in small groups.

After the “Learn to Play” tutorial, which takes about 10 minutes, the game will take 20-30 minutes to play. Players do not “win” or “lose.” Instead, they receive a score and are shown the goals they completed. The game encourages experimentation, so that players can reflect on the results of different choices made during the game.
